A tragic accident involving a fighter aircraft of the Indian Air Force has resulted in the deaths of two pilots after a Sukhoi Su‑30MKI crashed in the northeastern state of Assam. The incident occurred during a routine training sortie in the hilly terrain of Karbi Anglong district.
According to initial reports, the fighter jet had taken off from the air base in Jorhat for a scheduled training exercise. During the flight, the aircraft reportedly lost contact with air traffic control before crashing in a remote area surrounded by dense forests.
Rescue teams were immediately dispatched to the crash site after local authorities and defence officials confirmed the location of the wreckage. Unfortunately, both pilots on board the aircraft lost their lives in the accident.
The Su-30MKI is considered one of the most advanced multi-role fighter jets in the Indian Air Force fleet. It is widely used for air superiority missions, strategic patrols, and combat training operations. Despite its strong safety record, occasional accidents during high-intensity training flights remain a concern for defence forces worldwide.
Following the crash, the Indian Air Force expressed deep condolences to the families of the deceased pilots. The force has also ordered a Court of Inquiry to determine the exact cause of the accident. Investigators will examine possible technical failure, weather conditions, and operational factors.
The tragic loss highlights the risks faced by military aviators who conduct demanding training missions to maintain operational readiness. Defence officials have assured that a detailed investigation will be carried out to prevent similar incidents in the future.
"The decisions we make today will shape the world for generations to come."
