Middle East Tensions: CBSE Cancels Class 12 Board Exams in Several Countries Amid Iran-Israel-US Conflict

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has cancelled the remaining Class 12 board examinations scheduled in several Middle Eastern countries due to escalating security concerns linked to the ongoing conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States. The decision comes as tensions across the region continue to rise, creating an uncertain environment for students and examination staff.

According to officials, the board took the step after reviewing the safety situation in West Asia, where geopolitical tensions and military activity have disrupted normal life in multiple countries. CBSE-affiliated schools operating in nations such as United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait, and Bahrain were affected by the decision. Many of these countries host a large population of Indian expatriates whose children study in CBSE curriculum schools.

Initially, some examinations had been postponed as a precautionary measure while authorities monitored the evolving situation. However, as the conflict between Iran and Israel intensified and regional security alerts increased, CBSE decided that conducting the remaining exams would not be feasible.

The board emphasized that the safety and well-being of students, teachers, and exam staff remain its top priority. Officials also assured students and parents that the cancellation will not affect their academic future. CBSE is expected to announce an alternative evaluation system soon, which may include a combination of internal assessments, practical marks, and previously conducted examinations.

Education experts say the move reflects the board’s effort to avoid unnecessary risk while ensuring that students can still receive fair academic evaluation. Similar assessment methods were used successfully during earlier disruptions such as the COVID-19 pandemic.

For thousands of Indian students studying in CBSE schools across the Middle East, the announcement brings both relief and uncertainty. While the cancellation removes immediate safety concerns, students are now waiting for clarity on how their final results will be calculated.

As the geopolitical situation in the region continues to evolve, educational institutions are closely monitoring developments and working to ensure that students’ academic progress remains uninterrupted despite the challenging circumstances.

"The decisions we make today will shape the world for generations to come."
