Heavy monsoon showers lashed Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) on Thursday, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a red alert for several parts of the national capital. The intense rainfall led to severe waterlogging, traffic snarls, and disruptions to daily life, with authorities urging residents to remain cautious. 

According to the IMD, heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is expected in multiple districts of Delhi. The weather department has advised people to avoid unnecessary travel, stay away from flooded roads, and monitor official weather updates throughout the day. 

The continuous downpour caused waterlogging in several low-lying areas, slowing traffic movement across major roads. Commuters experienced long delays during the morning rush hour as vehicles moved through flooded stretches. Authorities have deployed emergency teams to clear waterlogged roads and ensure public safety. 

In Gurugram, heavy overnight rainfall also resulted in widespread flooding and traffic congestion. In response, Gurugram Police issued an advisory requesting corporate offices to allow employees to work from home wherever possible to reduce road traffic and ensure commuter safety during the ongoing spell of bad weather. 

Officials have urged residents to avoid venturing into waterlogged areas, drive carefully, and stay indoors during periods of intense rainfall and thunderstorms. Emergency response teams remain on alert as the active monsoon system continues to impact Delhi-NCR. 

The IMD has indicated that intermittent rainfall is likely to continue over the coming days, with the possibility of localized flooding and travel disruptions in several parts of North India. Citizens are advised to follow official advisories and remain prepared for changing weather conditions.
