A  tragic fire broke out at a CNC wood-cutting shop in the Shahberi furniture market area of Greater Noida late Thursday night, leaving one worker dead and another critically injured. The incident occurred under the Bisrakh police station area, according to reports published on August 14.

According to officials, two men were inside the shop when the fire started. They were reportedly sleeping inside the premises and became trapped as smoke quickly filled the shop. Firefighters and police personnel rushed to the location after receiving information about the blaze.

Firefighters managed to rescue both men from the shop. However, both had lost consciousness after inhaling heavy smoke and were immediately taken to a nearby hospital. Doctors declared one of them dead, with suffocation suspected to be the cause of death. The second worker was found in critical condition and was later referred to Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital for further treatment.

The fire department deployed seven fire tenders to the area, while electricity supply to the premises was shut down with the assistance of the electricity department to reduce additional risks during the rescue operation. Officials said the blaze was brought under control before it could spread further.

The fire caused extensive damage to the CNC shop, destroying furniture and other materials used in the wood-cutting operation. The exact cause of the fire has not yet been established, and authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The incident once again highlights the risks faced by workers operating or staying overnight inside commercial and industrial premises, particularly where flammable furniture and wood-cutting materials are stored. Authorities are expected to examine the shop’s safety arrangements as part of the investigation.
