Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, has written to Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, urging him to personally meet representatives of students protesting alleged irregularities in state recruitment examinations.

In his letter dated August 14, Gandhi described the students' protest as peaceful and their demands as legitimate. He urged Soren to directly engage with the protesters and take appropriate steps to resolve their remaining concerns.

Gandhi said the Congress supports the constitutional right to peaceful protest and has backed students raising concerns over alleged paper leaks and irregularities in the education system. He also stressed the importance of listening to young people, describing them as the future of India.

“The youth of India is its future. We owe them our solidarity and support at this moment of crisis,” Gandhi said in his appeal to Soren.

The protests in Jharkhand centre on alleged irregularities in examinations conducted by the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC). The agitation in Ranchi has continued for several weeks, with some students reportedly remaining on an indefinite hunger strike.

The Jharkhand government has already held multiple rounds of discussions with representatives of the protesting students and has invited them for further talks. However, key demands, including calls for an investigation into alleged examination irregularities and action concerning recruitment examinations, remain unresolved.

The development comes amid growing political pressure on the ruling JMM-Congress alliance in Jharkhand. Protesters recently targeted Soren, Gandhi and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav during demonstrations, accusing the ruling alliance of failing to take concrete action on their demands.

Gandhi's intervention puts renewed focus on the state government's handling of the student movement and underscores the Congress leadership's call for dialogue, transparency and a resolution to the recruitment examination dispute.
