Zerodha Launches IPO Lock-In Tracker Amid ₹2 Lakh Crore Supply Wave

Zerodha has rolled out an IPO lock-in expiry tracking feature on its Kite platform, displaying timelines in the fundamentals widget under the 'events' section using data from Tijori Finance . CEO Nithin Kamath emphasized its importance, noting that large shareholders like promoters, early investors, and ESOP holders face restrictions from 30 days to 18 months, and their sales often trigger downward price pressure. The tool equips retail traders—key Zerodha users—with institutional-grade visibility to navigate volatility in newly listed stocks .

A Nuvama report flags massive supply risks ahead, with 96 companies set for lock-in expiries between January 6 and April 30, 2026, unlocking shares worth $45 billion (₹3.8 lakh crore approx.). Not all shares will flood the market, as promoters hold much of the stake, but events mark high-volatility windows, especially for VC/PE-heavy IPOs . January alone sees unlocks for marquee names like HDB Financial (58% equity), Tata Capital (2%), Meesho (2%), and LG Electronics India .

The feature's timing aligned with real-world tests: On January 7, Meesho shares hit a 5% lower circuit at ₹173 after 11 crore shares (2% equity, ₹2,000 crore value) became tradeable, reverting near its ₹162 listing price . Tata Capital unlocked 71 million shares (₹2,570 crore), yet held steady around ₹357, while smaller names like Aequs and Vidya Wires also freed supply.
