The Ministry Built Portals. Youth Built Resumes. A Bengaluru Startup Just Made Both Free — And Exposed the Jobs Farce

Bengaluru did not wait for another ministry circular. In September 2026, TechNexusGen put GoodProfile on the public web and on both phone stores as a single claim that India’s job market has spent a decade pretending is impossible: search work, build an ATS-readable resume, apply, get found by recruiters, and hire — with no fee, no “Pro” gate, no locked download.

That claim would be marketing noise in a healthy labour market. This is not one. The Periodic Labour Force Survey put overall unemployment at 5.5 percent in June 2026, a number New Delhi likes to read aloud. The same bulletin put unemployment among people aged 15–29 at 16.2 percent, the high of the current monthly series. Urban youth joblessness sat at 18.2 percent. Young women were at 20.7 percent.

Azim Premji University’s State of Working India 2026 had already mapped the quieter scandal underneath those percentages: India now has about 6.3 crore graduates aged 20–29. About 1.1 crore of them are without work. Two in three unemployed young Indians hold a degree. Fewer than 7 percent of young male graduates land a permanent salaried job in the year after they leave campus. The state keeps announcing skill missions, internship targets and employment-linked incentives. The private job boards keep charging the people those missions failed. GoodProfile’s launch sits in that gap, not above it.

The product is blunt. That is the point.
Job seekers can start three ways, and this is the part most “free” resume sites bury behind a card.

Upload what you already have. PDF or Word drops into the builder and pre-fills the profile. Scanned pages and image-only CVs — the kind a first-generation graduate still photographs on a cheap phone — are read and rebuilt as searchable text. Recruiter software cannot index a photograph of a CV. That is why those files die in Naukri inboxes and campus portals. Updating is the same file, not a second product. Change the notice period, add a project, swap the city, save. You do not start from a blank page every time a recruiter asks for “one more version.”

Create from nothing if the old file is a liability. The studio ships thirty-plus professional templates across modern, corporate, classic, creative and elegant styles — the brief from the company puts the count at 32. Sections drag. Colours, fonts, margins and spacing move. Live preview sits next to the editor. Download is real text PDF and Word, not a flattened picture that an ATS treats as a brick.

Build to the job, not to a generic “software engineer” myth. Paste the job description. The model pulls missing keywords, skills and responsibilities into the draft and shows a live ATS score with one-click fixes for weak verbs, empty bullets and contact gaps. That is the difference between a resume written for your ego and a resume written for the filter that will never tell you it rejected you. One tap sends the application. A main resume can be set discoverable so employers search by skill, city and notice period and see an ATS match against their own JD.

Employers get the other half of a market the government still treats as a pamphlet. Unlimited free posts. Candidate search. A simple pipeline. A public company page. IT services firms — the same industry that parks engineers on the bench and then complains about “talent shortage” in every Nasscom panel — can list those people on a Bench Marketplace with skills, availability and a monthly rate. Another company hires them on contract with no middleman cut. That is a private fix for a staffing habit New Delhi has never regulated and never admitted.

The stack is live on the web at goodprofile.in, on the App Store and on Google Play. The iOS listing is free, lists the same feature set, and names Aditya Prajapati as developer. TechNexusGen, the Bengaluru parent, already sells other products; GoodProfile is the one pointed at the labour market rather than at enterprise dashboards.

A free tool is not a jobs policy. Pretending otherwise is how the last decade was wasted.
India’s official answer to youth work has been a pile of schemes with beautiful names and thin absorption. The PM Internship Scheme was sold as a bridge into the top 500 companies. Researchers tracking it have flagged the distance between offers published and candidates who actually join, and the design itself carries no duty on the host firm to convert an intern into an employee. Skill India Digital and state employment exchanges still behave like registries. They collect bio-data. They do not repair the document the ATS will kill in four seconds. They do not let a small manufacturer in Peenya search a bench in Pune without a vendor margin. They do not give a fresher in Davanagere a template that a Workday parser can read.

The paid internet did not fill that hole either. The dominant boards monetise desperation: job seekers pay to boost a profile that recruiters then ignore; employers pay to post roles that may already be filled; resume SaaS products let you design for an hour and then lock the PDF behind ₹400–₹2,000 a month. A 2026 comparison of popular builders found that several global names still run the “build free, pay to download” trap. A platform that keeps the builder, the score, the JD rewrite, the apply button and the employer tools on the same side of zero is not charity. It is a pricing decision the incumbents refused to make because the status quo prints money off a broken queue.

None of this means GoodProfile will hire India’s 1.1 crore idle graduates. Software does not create factory shifts, hospital posts or teaching seats. Software also does not excuse a government that quotes a 5.5 percent headline while 16.2 percent of its young people sit outside work, and while graduate unemployment remains several times the rate for people with no schooling. The data have said the same thing for years: the more the degree spreads, the weaker the insurance that degree once bought. Policy kept expanding classrooms. It did not expand the kind of salaried work those classrooms were sold as a ticket to.

What a Bengaluru product can do, if the “forever free” line holds, is remove the toll booth between a person and the first readable version of themselves. Upload the old file. Fix it. Or start clean on a professional template. Or paste the JD and let the draft move toward the language the bot already expects. Then apply without buying a boost. Then let a recruiter find you by notice period instead of by who paid for visibility. Employers who have been renting the same candidate database from the same two portals can post and search without a procurement cycle. Bench supply can move without a staffing firm taking a slice for introducing two inboxes to each other.

If that sounds modest, look at what the state still cannot ship. Employment exchanges that date from a different republic. Internship dashboards that count listings as outcomes. Skill certificates that do not parse. A political class that treats every private workaround as proof the system is “vibrant,” then takes credit in the next speech.

GoodProfile will be judged on whether the free layer stays free once traffic arrives, whether the ATS score maps to real shortlists, and whether the Bench Marketplace becomes a genuine contract rail or another listing graveyard. Those are product tests. The political test is already failed. A country that needs a startup to give away the basic machinery of applying for work has already told its young people what the official machinery was worth.
