The United States and Iran have slipped back into open exchanges of fire after weeks of relative quiet, turning a grinding six-month campaign into another dangerous spike. On Tuesday, US Central Command announced it had completed strikes against Iranian air defenses, radar systems, maritime assets, mine-laying capabilities and communications sites along the southern coast near the Strait of Hormuz. Washington framed the operation as a response to Iranian attempts to interfere with shipping and attacks on American personnel.
Iran answered with ballistic missiles and drones aimed at US-linked sites in Jordan, Bahrain, Kuwait and Iraq. Jordan reported intercepting most incoming missiles. Iranian officials said a US strike hit a home during a wedding ceremony in Kuhestak, Hormozgan province, killing several people including a child and wounding dozens. Later Iranian health ministry figures put the latest wave’s toll at 18 dead and more than 100 injured. The US military stated it does not target civilians and is reviewing the reports.
